KYRA LAUBACHER
Editor
You write. I buff and burnish.
As an editor, I ensure your writing lands effectively, reads clearly, and shows your work in its best form—whether it’s for a book, journal, or magazine. I provide developmental and line editing work in both fiction and nonfiction, with specialty areas in the arts and humanities. I'm available for freelance work on a contractual basis.

Specialties and interest areas:
Fiction: Literary fiction, magical realism, and historical fiction are my favorite genres. I love texts with rich character development and inner worlds, singular or multiple storylines/POVs, and unique writing styles.
Nonfiction: I'm especially familiar with dance and the performing arts (especially ballet), literature and literary analysis, and visual arts. Biography and memoir can be some of my favorite texts to work with and read, and I also have an affinity for anything to do with animals or the environment.

A bit about me:
I'm a word nerd and reading enthusiast with a lifelong love for the arts. For my full-time work, I'm on the editorial team for Dance Magazine, Pointe, Dance Spirit, and The Dance Edit, published by Dance Media. After college, I danced with Eugene Ballet in Eugene, OR, where I loved living surrounded by buttes and gorgeous, gorgeous trees. I graduated summa cum laude from Butler University in 2020 with a BFA in Dance Performance and a BA in English Literature. In 2024, I earned my certification in Manuscript Editing through the University of Chicago. I'm also a proud member of the Honors Society of Phi Beta Kappa and the Editorial Freelancers Association.

In my spare time, I love a good read—especially with a furry friend curled up next to me. Toni Morrison, Marlon James, Salman Rushdie, Zadie Smith, and R. F. Kuang are some of my favorite authors at the moment. You'll also find me frequenting dance performances (especially ballet) as often as I can, and I've been known to dance around the kitchen when the mood strikes.
